Widow of Scots Guardsman gets boiler in time for winter
A grant of £875 was provided towards the cost of a new boiler for the 73 year old widow of a Scots Guardsman whose 12 years’ service included a tour in Malaya. The lady’s old boiler had become so dangerous that she could not use it or the gas fire to which it was linked. The provision of the new boiler gave the lady hot water and heating before the onset of winter.
House adapted to support chair-bound wife
A grant of £1,500 was made to help fund home critical modifications for a 45-year-old former Sergeant and his wife. The soldier had served for 25 years, with tours in Northern Ireland, Afghanistan and Iraq. His wife is severely disabled but despite this the family lost disability benefits on the return from an overseas posting. Having saved for the purchase of their home, the couple could not afford to make adaptations to the bathroom after the lady’s physical capacity declined.
Family of 6 supported with emergency funds for daily provisions
A grant of £650 was made towards the purchase of essential household equipment for a Lance Sergeant. The Soldier was medically discharged after 12 years service after deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan. The family was faced with the sudden need to find additional funds to house his family, as he no longer qualified for a military loan after being medically discharged.
Retired homeless soldier receives leg-up for fresh start
A grant of £500 was made towards rent and deposit costs for a 54 year old veteran of the Falklands War. The former Guardsman had served a short jail sentence required a rent bond and advance to secure a small flat in which to serve out his time on home detention curfew.
