9630 (4374) L/Cpl John Robert Allen 2 Bn Scots Guards. John was born on the 8th March 1883 in Lytchett and attended the Board School, Broadstone. He had been a pre war regular soldier, enlisting in 1902 and when the Great War broke out he re-joined his old regiment. Before joining the regular army, he had been a Special Reservist with the 3rd Dorsets. He married Nellie at Salisbury on Christmas Eve 1904 and they had six children together. John was Killed in Action on the 18th December 1914 aged 31. He has no known grave and is now commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial. The CWGC lists “Husband of N. Galliott (formerly Allen), of Waterloo, Poole, Dorset”. Two of his brothers also appear on the Broadstone War Memorial. COPYRIGHT OF DORSETINTHEGREATWAR.CO.UK
