Description:

Very large tapering column, topped by stone sculpture of flames. Mature Scottish soldier in great-coat and helmet, arms reversed and resting on his boot stands in front on a plinth. Above his head, further up column is a cross and wreath; three other sides of column inset in stone are rectangular bronze plaques; whole is on multi-stepped base in town centre. The column terminates in a pelican finial. Around the finial are the badges of Scottish Horse, The Gordon Highlanders, The Black Watch and The Scottish Thistle. The whole is on 7 octagonal steps. A low stone plinth projects from the south east base of the memorial with the WW2 and Korean War plaques
