Born Crossing, Sharp, Westmoreland, son of Francis (stone cutter) & Mary Ann Kerr Copeland, resident of 3 Maxwellton Street, Paisley. Widow, Ellen McCormack Copeland & 4 children resident of 34 Broomlands Street, Paisley. Joined 1st Scots Guards in 1897 serving in the South African War. Recently a employee with Ferguslie Thread Mill Work's Dept., also a member of the works Fire Brigade. Member of New Street E.U. Congregational Church. Re-enlisted early in the war. (brother of Joseph).
