He was killed in action at Anzio in Italy on 30th January 1944 aged 21. He had been born in Abingdon, Berks. and was the son of Major Charles William Hugh and Nancye Laura Bailie of Manderson, Duns and is buried in Anzio War Cemetery, Anzio, Italy, IV, X, 3. He had been educated at Eton College and was commissioned in November 1941. His Headstone is inscribed ” He Shall Give His Angels Charge Over Thee “.
