Son of Charles Spearman Armstrong and Angelina Julie Armstrong.
Scots Guards officer killed on Hill 70 at the Battle of Loos
Guy Spearman Armstrong was the son of Irish pioneer of Ceylon tea, Charles Spearman Armstrong and commissioned 2nd Lieutenant with the Scots Guards in Jan 1915.
During the Battle of Loos in Sep 1915, the Scots Guards assaulted the Keep and the Puits where a small party managed to storm a building held by the Germans, with fierce hand-to-hand fighting ensuing. The Scots Guards also received heavy casualties securing Chalk Pit Wood.
2nd Lieutenant Armstrong was reported missing in action on 27 Sep 1915. His body was found a few days later by search party.
Armstrong is buried at Dud Corner Cemetery, Loos-en-Gohelle, Pas de Calais, Hauts-de-France and remembered on the West Byfleet Memorial, Chertsey, Surrey and the Bradfield College Cross Memorial.
