Guardsman Ronald Macleod

Service Number 16992

Campaign:

World War 1

Born in 1899, was a crofter from Cleadale, Eigg, who was called up on 20 July 1917.
He went out to the BEF on 30 March 1918 and arrived in 2SG on 22 April . On 23 May he was hospitalised with a badly scalded left ankle when he spilled boiling water from a mess tin in which he was making tea. He rejoined on 20 July.
He was sent on leave from Cologne on 22 February 1919 and, because the Guards Division was then about to be ordered home, he was told to report to 3SG at Wellington at the end of his leave. Technically his overseas service was till 15 March.
He was discharged on 26 October 1919.
What is incidentally interesting is that his postal address is given as the Post Office, Arisaig.
