Band members predominantly focus on musical development, however they are deployable soldiers so are often on the battlefield, usually supporting field hospitals and the wounded.
Band members can expect to play three or more instruments and perform at venues across the world, playing at the highest level.
The Band supports various State events throughout the United Kingdom, the most notable being the Trooping the Colour on Horse Guards Parade and the Remembrance Parade at the Cenotaph, in Whitehall.
The most regular duty is Queen’s Guard. This takes place at 11:30am in the forecourt at Buckingham Palace or at Windsor Castle, in the Castle’s quadrangle. In summer, the ceremony takes place every day. In winter, it takes place every other day. A number of the military band and corps of drums carry out this duty.
The Band supporting the Buckingham Palace Guard can be seen forming up on the parade square of Wellington Barracks, just opposite the Palace, prior to the event.
The Band may also support the Guard Mount at St James’s Palace.
