Dundee Policeman Wins Military Medal

“Private Edward Eggie, Scots Guards has been awarded the Military Medal. Private Eggie who, prior to joining up was a member of the Dundee Police Force, enlisted shortly after the outbreak of war. He was wounded in the thigh on 4th April 1916, and returned to the front in January of this year. He was the only son or Mr and Mrs Eggie, Old Rattray, Blairgowrie.”

“On Friday last week Mr William Eggie, Larch Cottage, Old Rattray, Blairgowrie received a telegram that his only son, Pte William Eggie, Scots Guards was dangerously ill in hospital abroad suffering from gunshot wounds in the abdomen, and this week came the news of his death.
Pte Eggie, who was a young man of splendid physique, was, before enlisting in the Scots Guards, a member of Dundee City Police. He joined up a few months after the outbreak of war, and had been at the front for a long period. On 4th April 1916, he was wounded by shrapnel on the thigh, six weeks ago he was wounded by shrapnel on the back, and his fatal wounds were received on 17th inst. Last year he had the distinction of winning the Military Medal. Much sympathy has gone out to his parents and sisters.
