Mackinnon was killed in action on 9 October 1917, aged 30, after reaching his objective – Louvois Farm near the Houthulst Forest and Langemarck, north-east of Ypres.
Commemorated on Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium. Panel 10
Son of Duncan Mackinnon, of Ballinahill, Leix; He was educated at Rugby School and Magdelen College Oxford where he rowed and won a Blue.
His brother William Mackinnon, a Captain in the London Scottish was also killed in WW1
