Buried at Sanctuary Wood cemetery, Belgium. 4. D. 14
His father was Edward Balfour of Balbirnie, Markinch, Fife.
Educated at Eton College
Engaged to Mary Cecily Magdeline Blair of the ancient Blair family whose history goes back to 1203, who remained as Miss Blair all her life because her fiance, Robert Balfour, had been killed in the First World War and she had never married. If he had lived and married Cecily he would have become laird of a large estate in Dalry which has a history going back to the granting of a barony to a man of Norman descent named Jean Francois by King William I of Scots
